Lot no. 272
FAISSOLE (Jean) and Claude CHAMPEAUX. Expériences et observations sur la cause de la mort des noyés, et les phénomènes qu'elle présente. Lyon, Aimé de la Roche ; Paris, Didot le jeune, 1768. In-8, marbled calf, spine decorated, red title page, red edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this rare study of forensic medicine relating to the "Lerouge affair", which became famous because of the interest it aroused in Voltaire.
The two authors, commissioned as experts at the trial of the alleged murderers of Claudine Rouge, justify their forensic report in this work, basing it on a series of public experiments carried out on animals at the Lyon Veterinary School, the protocol and conclusions of which they describe.
Slight spotting, small tears on one cover, light wetness in the last section, a few yellowed leaves.
