FALLA (Manuel de). Born in Cadiz (Spain). 1876-1946. Spanish composer. L.A.S. "Manuel de Falla" to "My dear friend". Paris, 1st May 1913. 2 pages 1/3 in-12. BEAUTIFUL LETTER ON MUSIC: ...Your letter and the way you are willing to talk to me about Vida breve give me great pleasure. Next week you will receive the score, which is due to be published in a few days' time. It is very good of you to think of taking care of it in the SIM [Société Internationale de Musique]... Our friend Viñes has already told me about your article on Albeniz, which I would like to know more about. Don't forget to let me know about your next trip to Paris. I'd be very happy to see you when you arrive. That way we can have a chat. Now I'm back to work on the Nocturnes, which I'd like to finish before the summer. I haven't forgotten our melody. I see that you are working well, as always. When can we hear your Conte lyrique? Will you be giving a reading in Paris? Turina returned last week. His symphonic poem on the Rocio was played in Madrid with great success. This month it will be performed at La Nationale, as part of the orchestral concert... [Spanish composer Joachim Turina, 'Procession del Rocio', 1912, praised by Debussy]. The Nocturnes mentioned in this letter are 'Nuits dans les jardins d'Espagne', which Manuel de Falla completed in 1916. He gave the first performance in London in 1921.
