Biography :
Prosper-Louis d'ARENBERG (1785 -1861) was the seventh Duke of ARENBERG, a German soldier and politician of the 18th and 19th centuries. He was married to Stéphanie TASCHER de LA PAGERIE, niece of Empress Marie Josèphe Rose de TASCHER de LA PAGERIE, known as Joséphine de BEAUHARNAIS.
Notes on the goldsmith :
Jean-Charles CAHIER, a silversmith based at 34 quai des Orfèvres in Paris, specialised in religious silverware. His hallmark was registered in 1801 and crossed out in 1849. He is renowned for some of his religious work, such as the reliquary of the Holy Crown of Thorns in the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris and the Holy Ampoule in Reims. He gained great renown under the Empire, then under Louis XVIII and Charles X. In November 1821, he acquired the goldsmith Martin-Guillaume's business.
