FANG, Gabon. Wood, pigments. Ngil" dance mask from the "Ngil" society, worn by a grand initiate called "ngengan". This type of mask was displayed during ceremonies aimed at re-establishing social order within the group. It is difficult to authenticate this mask, of which there are very few known examples. The only certainty is that it belonged to Dr Bartement and was given to him by a patient (see presentation of the collection). Height: 38 cm. Width: 20 cm.
