FATALUKU, Los Palos region, East Timor. "Ai tos", a pair of ancestors with high headdresses. They were placed in pairs on the tombs of important men. These tombs were made up of large blocks of stone placed in the centre of the village. The gullied wood is stained dark red and brown by lichen, a dry eroded patina. eroded patina. The overall effect is one of serenity. The male statues wear their buns on top of their heads, while the women wear them at the back. Height: 148 cm. Width: 16 cm.
