FATTORINI & SONS, BRADFORT, A SILVER POCKET WATCH CHRONOMETER, ENGLAND CIRCA 1920 Fattorini & Sons Ltd was a jewellery and watch company founded by a family of Italian immigrants who arrived in the city of Leeds, Yorkshire in England in the early 19th century. Antonio Fattorini opened a shop in Harrogate to take advantage of the seasonal trade in 1831, this business is now owned and run by descendants of the founders. In the 1850s, he opened a shop in Bradford with two of his sons. In 1883, the company made the first chess clock consisting of two connected pendulum clocks. The family became very involved in the Manningham Rugby Club in Bradford. In fact, Tony Fattorini represented Manningham when the club became part of the split from the Rugby Union in 1895 that led to the formation of what we know today as Rugby League. Manningham was the first champion of the new game in 1896. After a period of decline, Manningham changed games and became the Bradford City football club in 1903. Once again the Manninghams were at the forefront of the changeover to football, they also designed and produced the FA Cup that Bradford City won in 1911 and with it they developed time clocks until 1933.
