The straight uprights are joined by a crotch strap, with carved decoration in the centre of the Central African arms surmounted by an imperial crown. Decorated with red and green coloured stones Seat and back upholstery in red velvet, braid and fringes Height 151 - Width 81.5 - Depth 66 cm Provenance: Jean-Bedel BOKASSA (1921-1996) This armchair was used by Jean-Bedel Bokassa or his wife Catherine when he was crowned Emperor of the Central African Republic on 4 December 1977, under the name of "Bokassa I, Emperor of the Central African Republic by the will of the Central African people, united within the national political party: MESAN". An official photo from the time shows the chair we are presenting.
