Lot no. 12
FAVRE (Antoine). Codex Fabrianus definitionum forensium et rerum in Sacro Sabaudiæ Senatu tractatarum... Lyon, Borde, Arnaud, and Rigaud, 1661. In-folio, bound in full cold-stamped vellum, spine ribbed. New edition (the original edition was published in 1606). This essential work on the jurisprudence of the magistrates of the Duchy of Savoy was used continuously for more than two centuries. Antoine Favre (Bourg-en-Bresse 1555 - Chambéry 1624) was a Savoyard jurist. He obtained his doctorate in law from the University of Turin in 1579, and after serving as a magistrate in Bresse until 1587, he joined the Savoy Senate. In 1596 he was appointed President of the Genevan Council and then, in 1610, President of the Sovereign Senate of Savoy. A fine copy of an early edition of this fundamental work on the law of the Duchy of Savoy.
