Lot no. 201
FEDERICO PESCHIERA Soprano Pine, 1814 - Atlantic Ocean, 1854 Portrait of a Maiden Signed Peschiera bottom left Oil on panel, 55X44.5 cm Provenance: Rome, private collection This canvas depicts a young girl of delicate and pure beauty, with diaphanous skin, a dreamy gaze and a face framed by long hair. The painting represents a significant example of the art of Federico Peschiera, a very talented artist who began his training at a very young age at the Accademia Ligustica in Genoa, making his debut as a lithographer and illustrator. In the 1930s, he achieved his first successes by exhibiting works on historical subjects. From 1840 he spent time in Rome, from where he sent several paintings of religious and genre themes to Genoa, which were much appreciated. Among these is Christ in agony, now in the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna in Genoa. Appointed Academic of Merit at the Ligustica, in 1847 he took over the direction of the School of Drawing and stayed in Venice the same year. In Genoa he also painted frescoes for private residences and ecclesiastical commissions, further consolidating his fame.
