Note: Kusakabe Kinbei (日下部 金兵衛, Kusakabe Kinbei?) (born 27 November 1841 in Kōfu, Yamanashi Prefecture and died 19 April 1934 in Ashiya, Hyōgo Prefecture) was a Japanese photographer. He was usually called by his first name, Kinbei, because his clientele, mostly foreigners, found it easier to pronounce than his name. Kinbei Kusakabe worked as a colourist and assistant alongside Felice Beato and Baron Raimund von Stillfried before opening his own studio in Yokohama, in 1881, in the Benten-dōri district and, in 1889, moving to the Honmachi district. He also opened a branch studio in the Ginza district of Tokyo. Around 1885, he bought the negatives of Beato and Stillfried, as well as those of Kuichi Uchida and some of Hikoma Ueno. He stopped photographing in 1912-1913.
