Lot no. 1668
Felix Ehrlich (1866 Berlin - 1931 ibid.) Interior scene with a young Italian woman and a priest of the same age Scene in a picturesque, rural parlour, in which the priest is talking so enthusiastically to the Italian woman in traditional costume that the back legs of his chair have already lifted off the floor. With its characterisation of figures and materiality, this is an outstanding, truly narrative genre painting by Ehrlich, who studied under Carl Steffeck at the Königsberg Academy of Art from 1883 and became his master student in 1888. In addition to genre scenes, he also became known as a court painter in Berlin from 1896 for his portraits of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm II. Oil on canvas; signed a.; 58 cm x 68 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed.
