FIGURE GROUP OF AENEAS AND ANCHISES France, 18th/19th century. After a model by Pierre Lepautre (1660–1744). Bronze with a brown patina, on an openwork, gilt bronze rocaille base. Depiction of young Aeneas carrying his aged father Anchises, who in turn is leading Aeneas' son Ascanius by the hand. Anchises holds a small statue of the household god of Troy. H 62 cm; without base H 54 cm. Provenance: European private collection. Patina with scratches and slightly rubbed. Losses. The dramatic depiction shows a scene from Roman-Greek mythology. Darstellung vom jungen Aeneas, seinen alten Vater Anchises tragend, der wiederum Aeneas' Sohn Ascanius an der Hand führt. Anchises hält eine Statuette mit dem Hausgott von Troja. H 62 cm; ohne Sockel H 54 cm. Provenienz: Europäische Privatsammlung. Patinierung mit Kratzern und leicht berieben. Fehlstellen. Die dramatische Darstellung zeigt eine Szene der römisch-griechischen Mythologie. Nach dem Trojanischen Krieg flieht die trojanische Königsfamilie nach Italien, wo der Legende nach deren Nachkommen die Stadt Rom gründen.
