Lot no. 173
Anthropomorphic terracotta figurine known as Tanagra, Greece 4th-3rd century BC.
Small moulded object representing a stylised female bust. The head is decorated with a headdress or hair in relief forming a halo around the face. The facial features, schematic but expressive, are slightly incised: closed or half-closed eyes, marked nose, sketched mouth. The torso is simplified, suggesting the female form through two rounded volumes. The arms are folded over the chest. A restored fracture runs horizontally across the centre of the piece.
The surface has a light beige patina, with some traces of wear.
Height: 15 cm
