Monogrammed and titled in the plate, additionally monogrammed and with the dry stamp of the artist's studio. - With small, only slightly visible rubbing in the upper and lower margins due to previous mounting, with remnants of mounting in the upper margin verso. Very good overall. Splendid, sharp impression of deep black with wide margins.
Valloton/Goerg 175 b. - Schultze et al, 171-6 - One of a few prints identical to the first 100 impressions (175 a) (total edition around 140), each monogrammed by Valloton by hand and with the dry stamp "Atelier F. Valloton". The woodblock was destroyed after the edition. - The woodcut shows the guitarist Louis Schopfer and is the fifth of six from Valloton's important series "Instruments de musique" (1896/97). The other works in the series show musicians playing the chello, flute, violin, piano and cornet.
