Lot no. 286
Fin de Siecle Rolf Nesch 13 proofs. 1920s and 1930s. Each drypoint or etching on Zanders Gohrsmühle wove paper (some with watermark). Sheet dimensions from 31 x 25.5 cm to 39 x 29 cm. Each signed and partly inscribed "Probedruck". Each mounted in spots on support and under passepartout. - Edges each bumped and some with heavy creasing and traces of atelier. Each partly slightly browned and partially with small brown stains. Overall very good. Rare. - Rolf Nesch was a German-Norwegian artist whose artistic work was strongly influenced by his stay with Kirchner in Davos and who is known above all for his experimental prints and his sometimes monumental material paintings. The extremely expressive proofs we have here probably date from the 1920s and 1930s and mainly show oriental-looking scenes, which appear to have been created with great lightness and spontaneity, yet reveal a great attention to detail. The contrasts created using the drypoint etching technique give the motifs a painterly value and at the same time express the great sensitivity and power with which Nesch succeeds in transforming what he sees into embossed forms and signs. 13 proofs.
