FINE ISPAHAN RUG (Iran, mid 20th century) Ivory field decorated with foliage and garlands of polychrome flowering palmettes framing a central ruby rosette with a floral crown. Four pearl grey spandrels with floral bulbs. Three borders, the main one cherry red, decorated with interlacing fine crenellated stems surrounded by multicoloured floral buds. High-quality silky lambswool velvet on a cotton foundation. Density: around 8,000 knots per dm2. Remarkably fine. Beautiful polychromy. L. 157 x W. 106 cm. (Damage)
