FINELY INLAID CASE FOR A WRITING SET - The Embden Collection
Germany or the Netherlands, 17th century.
Finely inlaid plum wood with partially engraved bone. Depiction of a city under siege with two warriors and a cannon or mortar firing at a fortified city. Fine decoration of arabesques and geometric fillets or friezes. Semi-circular box with hinged lid, opening onto a writing set with a compartment for a pen, a central folding compartment, and an inkwell. Brass inserts and fittings.
21.5 × 13 × 3.3 cm.
Few signs of use and minimal losses to the inlays.
