Lot no. 402
FLACCHIO, Engelbert (17th century) Genealogie de la tres illustre, tres ancienne et autrefois souveraine Maison de la Tour. Brussels: Claudinot, 1709. 3 vols, folio (485 x 330mm) Antipopes to each frontispiece, 19 numbered and folded plates in the first volume plus 5 portraits outside the text, 37 folded plates in the second volume numerous full-page heraldic illustrations in the text of volume 3 (browning and some staining). 18th century coeval binding (defects). First and only edition of this monumental and luxurious genealogical publication, enriched with a wealth of illustrations. Claudinot's intention was to reprint the Marques d'honneur de la maison de Tassis, published by Jules Chifflet in 1645. However, he chose instead to publish the work of Flacchio, a Luxembourgian herald and king of arms, who presents in this volume the genealogy and alliances of all the members of the family of Tour and Tassis, accompanied by plates illustrating the dynastic, sometimes sovereign, ties that extended throughout Europe. The work is sold as described and is not subject to cancellation. (3)
