Lot no. 40
Perfume bottle in 18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold from the late 19th/early 20th century, richly decorated with brightly coloured champlevé enamels on the lid, which opens onto a metal stem used to delicately place the perfume on the body. The two central sections are in transparent red enamel known as Lal zamin, with diamond leaves and rose-cut diamonds set in "kundan" gold leaf and decorated with pairs of white birds, probably an illustration of the white peacock symbolising peace and prosperity. The rest of the volume is filled with a profusion of vegetation and multicoloured birds. Private collection of a Belgian noble family. Enamels from Jaipur, Rajasthan.
