Flemish painter (active in the 17th century) Children's Bacchanal A cheerful, exuberant scene in an Arcadian landscape with a multitude of dancing, jumping, singing and musical boys paying homage to a statue of Bacchus. Delicately painted mythological depiction, executed in luminous colouring and effective use of light, clearly reminiscent of works with similar motifs by Flemish masters such as Jan van Balen (1611-1654) or Peeter van Avont (1660-1652). Oil on canvas, relined. Inscribed "van Balen" verso. 28 cm x 36 cm. Frame. Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - Part II. Flemish painter active 17th century. Oil on relined canvas.
