Lot no. 60
FLAUBERT (Gustave)
S. l. n. d. [Paris, spring 1861].
Autograph letter signed to Ernest Feydeau.
1 p. in-8 ( 20,5 x 13,5 cm - 7 x 5.31 in.), blue laid paper.
He wrote to Joséphine Clémence Lecarpentier, widow of Desgranges, and "ended up finding her at the Tour de Nesles rehearsal".
"Dennery is working relentlessly on the chine - it must be finished in XV days. After which he will read Daniel."
Joséphine Lecarpentier, also known as "Gisette", married Adolphe d'Ennery (1811-1899), a French writer and playwright, in 1881.
The letter is referenced and transcribed (with a few minor errors) in the electronic edition of Flaubert's correspondence (edited by Ivan Leclerc, Université de Rouen), but it is not illustrated (it is stated that the autograph has not been found).
