Paris, Charpentier, 1877; in-12 of [4]-248-[2] pp, old red morocco, eight gilt fillets on the boards, the six of them criss-crossing at the corners and in the middle of the borders, spine ribbed and decorated in the same style, interior gilt fillets, gilt edges on witnesses, cover (Chambolle-Duru). First edition. Enriched with an autograph signed letter from Gustave Flaubert to his friend the historian Alfred Maury (1817-1892). Maury was an encyclopaedic scholar who accompanied Flaubert throughout his life. Elegant gilt binding. Ex-libris Jolly Bavoillot, designed by Giacomelli.
