FON, Benin. Wood, iron and metal. Three "Kpo" recades, one with a lion's head recalling the reign of King Glèlè, one with an animal's head (ram or antelope) holding a polished axe in its mouth, the distinctive insignia of an army corps created during Glèlè's reign, and a more traditional recade. First third of the 20th century. Length: 47 cm - 59 cm and 60 cm. Wear and tear.
