FOREIGN ORDERS & DECORATIONS - IMPERIAL RUSSIA - Order of Saint Andrew : A truely magnificent Order of Saint Andrew early Collar Chain by Immanuel Pannasch, dated 1831. The 23 link Collar Chain in gold and enamels. Consisting of 9 links with the Imperial Russian Double Headed Eagle, 7 links with the crowned cypher of Tsar Peter I. and 7 links with Saint Andrew's Cross and the initials "SAPR" (Saint Andrew Patron of Russia). The links in Pannasch's unsurpassed highest quality enamel work and of the finest jeweller's craftmanship. Many links with St. Petersburg marks on obverse and reverse in various places. Reverse of each link hallmarked "IP" for Immanuel Pannasch of Saint Petersburg (1773 - 1836), anchor's mark for the City of Saint Petersburg and year date mark "1831". Minor chipping in places but overall in extremly fine Condition. The style of this collar is of the typical distinguished and exquisit hollow construction workmanship. A similar collar dated 1828 from the possesion of the 6th Duke of Devonshire can be found at Chatsworth. Another dated 1835, Auction Hess, Lucerne 1968, then in the Collection of Paul Sandars, New York City, then Sotheby's Geneva 1991. Dott. Antonio Spada illustrates a collar in his Onori e Glorie, Vol.II, p. 176 - 177.
