During the famous Battle of Trafalgar (21 October 1805), British Admiral Horatio Nelson on his HMS Victory defeated the Franco-Spanish fleet with his fleet, but was mortally wounded. This strip of cloth, as the inscription on the envelope containing it reads, recalls how it was perhaps part of the flag used as a pillow on which Nelson, dying, rested his head.
