Shield of France ensigned by an open crown, above a sun and below (workshop). Rv. + XPSx VINCIx XPSx REGNATx XPSx INPEAT. Bored plain cross within a trefoiled polylobe. Dy.968 - G.385 - Fr.377; Gold - 3.29 g - 27.5 mm - 10 h Top Pop: this is the only graded example! R5 (hors cote) at Gadoury and only one example reported in FRANCIÆ IV: the example from the Bourgey sale, "Un siècle de collection", 17 March 1997, no. 114, which has different corners despite a reduced production of 1,800 examples. PCGS AU58 (59842964). With annelet 4th and N. Acorn of the master François de Meaux. Legend HANRICVS et G(R)A et VINCI et INPEAT. Broad flan, barely veiled. Only 3 or 4 known examples. TTB to Superb. According to register Z1b/900 of the Archives Nationales, the production took place in three deliveries: from 2 to 21 May 1548, with 3 copies in boxes (about 600 made); from 7 July to 23 November 1548 , with 6 copies in boxes (about 1200 made) and the last from 14 August 1549, with 1 copy in a box and 221 copies made, bringing the total to 2021 copies made "by François de Meaulx, m(aîtr)e to whom roy François decedde a donne a main ferme lad(ite) m(onnai)e par la resignation de Michel Calvet (...) pour 6 ans".
