Bust laurelled and cuirassed right, below a fleuron. Jones 227 / Jones 202 ; Bronze - 38.02 g - 47.2 mm - 11 h Antique cast with father and son, both murdered. The fields slightly retouched. Beautiful brown patina. TTB to Superb. A childhood companion of King Henry II, François de Guise (1519-1563) was a renowned military leader at the head of a powerful lineage. He ruled France during the reign of François II, from 1559 to 1560, and distinguished himself as the leader of the Catholics during the Wars of Religion. He was assassinated by a Reformed on 18 February 1563. His son Henri, Duke of Guise, was assassinated with his brother Cardinal Louis de Lorraine on the orders of the King of France, Henri III, during the Estates General at the Château de Blois.
