FRANCE / CAPÉTIENS - FRANCE / ROYAL John II the Good (1350-1364). Franc à cheval ND (1360). Av. IOHANNES: DEI: GRACIA: FRANCORV: REX. The king on horseback, galloping left, sword raised, wearing a crowned helmet surmounted by a lily, wearing over his chain mail a coat of arms fleurdelisé; the horse's caparison is fleurdelisé. Rv. + XPC* VINCIT* XPC* REGNAT* XPC* IMPERAT. Leafy cross with quatrefoil heart, within a small angled quatrefoil, decorated with palmettes and flanked by four hollowed-out shamrocks. Dy.294 - Fr.279; Gold - 3.83 g - 29 mm - 4 h NGC MS 62 (8583598-028). Broad flan, with centred strike and slight circulation wear. The patina is golden over the original lustre. Superb.
