With suspension hole at 12 o'clock. Fine style and old cast, detailed, with a mahogany brown patina. Traces on the edge and scrolls. Almost Superb.
This medal, with the right of Louis XII was offered to the sovereigns by the city of Lyon during their visit and was made by several artists from Lyon: Nicolas Leclerc, Jean de Saint-Priest, Jean and Colin Lepère. On 15 March 1500, the city presented Queen Anne with a copy of this gold medal (later lost). Copies were then cast in silver, bronze and lead. Mazerolle (Tome I, page 4, no. 7) quotes a document in the archives of the city of Lyon relating to the commissioning of this medal, and even indicating the amount paid to the artists: "Wednesday XVIII March 1499, after dinner, in the common ossel, the councillors agreed with Jehan Lepère and Nicolas Leclerc, image cutters, to make the medal ordered to be given to the Queen, the King on one side and the Queen on the other, with a seed of fleur-de-lys and armigers, as appropriate, and a lion below on each side, within the circuit of the escipture ; which escsipture will be advised and given to them. This medal will be made as soon as possible. The paries ordered to Monsieur le tresorier for payment to the persons named below, today the XXVIth day of March mil IIIIcIIXX nineteen.
