PCGS MS63 (47452945).
With initial sun on right and reverse and reverse legend XPS (etc.). Particular style. The strike is slightly treflé on the reverse. Of a beautiful freshness with a light patina on the original gloss. Rare workshop for this type and probably the only known example for this vintage. Superb at Fleur de coin.
Very rare first strike of the Aix-en-Provence workshop, after reopening in November 1634 and before the increase in the price of gold shields (April 1636). For Aix under Louis XIII, gold shields are known for 1635 (our copy with LOYS / XPS), 1637 (R2 according to Clairand but not seen!), 1638 (LVDOVIC / CRISTVS - Ganne 120 = Crédit de la Bourse June 1986. Unique ? R2 according to Clairand), 1639 (LVDOVIC / CRISTVS - Kind BnF 1381), 1640 (LVDOVICVS / CRISTVS and CHRISTVS - MDC 14 n° 455), 1641 (LVDOVICVS / CHRISTVS - Kind BnF 1382), 1643 (LVDOVICVS / CHRISTVS - suffren-numismatique site). The following have not been found: 1636 and 1642 (cited in the Musée d'Amiens, Galerie des Monnaies Genève December 1966 and Crédit de la Bourse, list November 1969 (sic!?) according to Droulers, Encyclopédie, note 2).
