Cross formed of eight L's leaning against each other, each arm crowned, with (workshop) in a heart circle, surmounted by a hand of justice and a sceptre in saltire. Dy.1442 - G.261 - Fr.435 - C. Parsy expert, 7 April 2022, n° 355, then BN CGB 220, p.26-27 "Une extraordinaire monnaie de Louis XIV retrouvée : le double louis d'or frappé à Grenoble en 1703" by C. Charlet. Reproduced in the BSFN of September 2022, p.273, fig.3 and BSFN of January 2023, p.11, fig.3. Minimal adjustment striae and only minimal hairlines in the fields. The original lustre is covered by a light patina with golden highlights in the legends. One of a kind. Superb at Fleur de coin. Only 565 copies issued on 30 June 1703 to different masters, Jean-Pierre Le Gay (rose) and Charles Hervé (dauphin).
