Aged head of the King on the right, with a large laurel wig; below (date). Rv. (at 6 o'clock) CHRS - REGN - VINC - IMP (different). Cross formed of four crowned lilies, cantoned by four L's, with (workshop) within a heart circle. Dy.1440A v. - G.252 v. - Clairand missing (false reformations reported) - Fr.433 v. ; Gold - 6.62 g - 25 mm - 9 h From the Valenciennes Treasure, or the treasure of the munitions dealer Mahieu in Valenciennes. Discovered in 1949, it is known as the largest French coin treasure, with around 2,800 gold coins and 6,000 silver coins, a sum corresponding to the weekly needs of several regiments during the Malplaquet campaign in 1709. An extremely rare reformation of a Spanish 2 escudo coin! The blank is slightly oblong. Good style, with a well-engraved portrait and a clear date. The reverse legend starts at 6 o'clock.
