Monseigneur, son of the King, married Marie-Anne de Bavière, sister of the Elector of Bavaria, on 7 March 1680. The couple had several children, three of whom survived their parents: Louis de France (1682-1712), Duke of Burgundy; Philippe V (1683-1746), Duke of Anjou (King of Spain in 1700) and Charles de France (1686-1714), Duke of Berry. Unsuited to the French court and in poor health due to her pregnancies, the Dauphine died in 1690 at the age of 29.
