Half-body bust on the right of Louis XIV wearing the large wig, draped and wearing the large damascened cuirass, with angel's head in the centre and shoulder in lion's head; below signature on the shoulder Bertinet Sculp cu privilegio and small punch formed by two Ls leaning against each other under a crown. Rv. Smooth. Beautiful brown patina, the bust with mahogany highlights. Very nice. The bust on the right is close to the bust of Louis XIV by Antoine Coysevox, and to the medallion placed on the cenotaph of Louis XIV (and Marie-Thérèse) in the crypt of the Abbey of Saint-Denis, also attributed to Antoine Coysevox. The King is wearing a thick, curly wig that falls to his shoulders, with a fine moustache, and appears in antique style wearing armour adorned with a lion's nose. This medallion also exists in a version without legend (Sotheby, sale Prince Marc de Beauvau-Craon collection, 15 September 2017, n° 75 [3500 €] or Dillée sale, 18 March 2015, n° 134 [5500 €] or Marquis d'Anzelme de Pizet collection, Europ Auction sale, 26 January 2011, n° 100 [10-12.000 €] or Victoria & Albert Museum 755-1864 or Wallace collection S380). Finally, there is a variant of this bust with a lily on the shoulder (Musée Lyon E465d).
