Top Pop: the most beautiful graded example!
PCGS AU50 (40909220).
With complete legends and a nice collector's grey patina. Very rare in this quality! A superb example.
Of excellent manufacture, with the neat style and the complete legends: this type is the prototype of the denarius struck in partnership with the bishop of Laon, which will be immobilized thereafter. An example close to this "prototype" can be seen on the cover of the BSFN of the Journées Numismatiques de Laon, 30-31 May and 1 June 1998, with an example showing the beginnings of immobilisation. According to B. Foucray, Trésors Monétaire XXVII, p.347, this initial issue could date from 1030-1031.
