The very rare solidus of Louis the Pious, probably made in 816 (3 known examples?), is abundantly copied by a production attributed to Friesland, due to the many local finds. More than 120 different examples of this issue are known, initially in a good style (c.830-840) and then in a more and more degenerate style (c.850-880), including the majority of examples.
