FRANCE / FEUDAL - FRANCE / FEUDAL Dombes, Jean II de Bourbon (1456-1488). Ducat d'or au cavalier ND (after 1469), Trévoux. Av. + IOHES* DVX* BORBONII* TREVORCII* DNS. Bust of the Duke on the left, wearing a headband and the collar of the Order of Saint-Michel. Rv. DEXTER - A* D - NI* EXAL - TAVIG* ME- (different). The Duke on horseback, galloping right, cuirassed and wearing a closed helmet topped by a lily, holding a sword high; the horse's caparison is decorated with the three lilies with blaze of the house of Bourbon. Dy.2910 - Divo 1 - Fr.119 ; Gold - 3,42 g - 21,3 mm - 12 h NGC WITH BENT DETAILS (8524344-010). With A at the end of the reverse for an undetermined master. Short flan with a slight trace of fold. Regular wear with golden patina. Very rare. TTB. With a fine "realistic" portrait of the Duke, in imitation of the ducat of Francis I Sforza of Milan. This ducat is one of the first Renaissance coins with a portrait. The Duke wears the Order of Saint-Michel on his right, which he received in 1469. For the French national series, it was not until 1514 and Louis XII that a realistic portrait appeared on the testons (after the Italian mints of Naples, Milan and Asti in the 1500s).
