Two minor traces of testing on the edge. Regular wear on the high reliefs and small marks in the fields. Brush marks in the fields. Extremely rare with perhaps 2 known examples. TTB to Superb.
For the birth of Louis de Lorraine (1704-1711) at the Château de Lunéville, heir presumptive to the thrones of Lorraine and Bar. He died of the smallpox epidemic of 1711 with two of his sisters. A copy of this gold medal, as well as two other gold medals (from 1737 and 1744?), were sealed when Anne-Charlotte de Lorraine rebuilt the abbey palace in Remiremont [Annales Société d'émulation des Vosges 1904, p.357].
