Joined busts to the right, the Duke laurelled and the Duchess diademed; below, signature MAVGER F. Rv. TE CRESCENTE SURGAM. A pine tree surrounded by ivy; in the exergue: L. P. LOTH. / NAT. XXVIII. IANV. / M.DCCIIII. Florange coll. 1937 see no. 169 (other reverse) and 170 (bronze); Gold - 28.38 g - 35 mm - 12 h From a Spink 39 sale, Zürich, 6 December 1984. Two minor traces of testing on the edge. Regular wear on the high reliefs and small marks in the fields. Brush marks in the fields. Extremely rare with perhaps 2 known examples. TTB to Superb. For the birth of Louis de Lorraine (1704-1711) at the Château de Lunéville, heir presumptive to the thrones of Lorraine and Bar. He died of the smallpox epidemic of 1711 with two of his sisters. A copy of this gold medal, as well as two other gold medals (from 1737 and 1744?), were sealed when Anne-Charlotte de Lorraine rebuilt the abbey palace in Remiremont [Annales Société d'émulation des Vosges 1904, p.357].
