Medal struck, with no indication of the value of XLV sols. Beautiful regular strike, and regular wear, with a grey patina. Probably less than 10 known examples. TTB to Superb. The Raucourt mint was opened by order of Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne on 4 February 1614, in addition to the mint in Sedan. The master of this new mint was Paul Manlich or Manlick, who had arrived from Cork where he had been running the Bishop's mint. Manlich began by producing copper liards, but then went on to produce double gold ecus, gold ecus or pistoles, and coins of XLV (45) sols or patards (and XX sols and a half), in which the Duke innovated by including his portrait. All of these denominations seem to have lower titles than the coins they imitate, which allowed them to make a profit, and led to numerous decrees from the King of France, from 1614 and 1615. All the coins minted at Raucourt bear the name of the workshop and are thus identifiable.
