FRANCE - FRANCE Consulate (1799-1804). 1 franc Bonaparte An XI (1803), G, Geneva. Av. BONAPARTE FIRST CONSUL. Nude head right, below signature Tiolier. Rv. REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE (date) (workshop). Within a wreath formed of two branches: 1 FRANC. G.442 - F.200 - HMZ.354; Silver - 23 mm - 6 h Top Pop: this is the finest graded example! NGC MS 62 (6881839-004). Beautiful mintage, barely off-centre. This example has circulated very little with the relief almost intact. The patina is grey and old. Superb at Fleur de coin. This is the first Germinal franc, taking its name from the law of 7 to 17 Germinal Year XI (28 March to 7 April 1803): "five grams of silver, at the rate of nine-tenths of a fine, constitute the monetary unit which retains the name of franc". This is the highest grade at NGC for this example minted in the new Geneva workshop, annexed to France in 1798. * Following Council Directive (EU) 2022/542 of April 5, 2022, implemented in national law from 01/01/2025, buyers from within the EU have to pay 5.5% VAT on the hammer price of this lot. * Following Council Directive (EU) 2022/542 of April 5, 2022, implemented in national law from 01/01/2025, buyers from within the EU have to pay 5.5% VAT on the hammer price of this lot.
