Bust of the Republic on the left, wearing a Liberty cap and laurel. Rv. 5 MAY 1955. The Louis XIV pendulum of the Monnaie de Paris (built in 1699). Around it, the signatures BRENET F. and DENON D. In the exergue: LE PRESIDENT COTY/ VISITE/ L'ADon. DES MONNAIES/ 1(horn). Maz.2776a; Gold - 8.44 g - 22.5 mm - 12 h Top Pop: the most beautiful graded example! PCGS SP65 (60811413). Special strike (SP). Minute marks on the bust. Almost Fleur de coin. The Monnaie de Paris balance pictured is the one built in 1699, with bronze cannons from the royal arsenals. Its faces show "the four virtues which reign in all the principal actions of His Majesty, whether in peace or in war: Valour, Justice, Religion, Liberality" [according to the Académie des Inscriptions]. It was used to strike the medals in the Histoire métallique de Louis XIV, the gold medal for the visit of Peter the Great in 1717 and the gold medal for Nicholas II in 1896 [sold at MDC 6 no. 1082].
