Special strike (SP). Recessed edge: (lily) DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Special strike, with satiny relief. Only tiny hairlines. Unique, and perhaps the copy given to the Duke and Duchess during their visit. Superb in Fleur de coin.
On 18 November 1817, their Royal Highnesses Monseigneur le Duc de Berry and Madame la Duchesse de Berry visited the Mint. P. Théret and M. Taillard, Le Franc, Louis XVIII, 2024 report p.239: "Parvenues à la salle du monnayage, il a été frappé une pièce, dont M. Tiolier fils, graveur général, avait gravé les coins, portant d'un côté les écussons des armes du Prince et de celles de la Princesse et de l'autre une inscription commémorative de cette honorable visite". Our copy certainly appears to be this copy, struck in gold in the presence of the Duke and Duchess and certainly presented to them.
