FRANCE - FRANCE Napoleon IV (1856-1879). Trial for 5 francs, in pewter, reverse with square shield, fluted edge 1874, Brussels (Würden). NAPOLEON IV EMPEROR. Bare head to left; below TRIAL and signature C. DE F. Rv. FRENCH EMPIRE. Imperial coat of arms on crowned mantle surmounted by sceptre and hand of justice, between 5 - F; below (star) (date) (lily). G.741 v. - Maz (cf. 1762) - VG (cf. 3760); Pewter - 22.21 g - 37.5 mm - 6 h Top Pop: the only graded example! NGC MS 63 (8585414-001). With fluted edge, on pewter blank. The fields barely rubbed, with small black spots, and covered with a grey patina. Superb at Fleur de coin. Often given as apocryphal strikes of the Würden establishments in Brussels, these strikes, with C. de F., could also come from a private strike at La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland.
