FRANCE LIBRE Case of two medals presented by the 5th armoured division to General de Gaulle Covered in red leather and marked in gold "To General de Gaulle / Liberator of the Fatherland / The 5th Armoured Division". Inside ivory silk cover marked in gold "THIS MEDAL WAS OFFERED TO THE FAMILIES OF THE 1160 DEAD OF THE 5th D.B. FALLEN FOR FRANCE TO LIVE. GENERAL DE VERNEJOUL". It contains two round silver medals by Rivaud. One of the two medals is attributed on the reverse "TO GENERAL DE GAULLE". Each medal: 35 mm - Net weight: 22 g Silver hallmarks of the Mint. Case: 15 x 8.5 cm. G.E. Biography : Henri de Vernejoul (1889-1969). During the Second World War, he commanded the 5th armoured division (5e DB) during the Liberation of France and Alsace in 1944-1945.
