France Officer's sabre Vendémiaire AN XII Single-branch brass mounting, beaded pommel, striated ebony spindle, body knot with antique helmet and trophies of arms, half acanthus leaf mounts, lion's head quillon curved downwards. Curved one-third damascus blade with bevelled back decorated in gold with cabalistic motifs (significant lack of gilding), gutters and counter-edge. Scabbard in iron plate, blued (brass V-shaped bowl missing), with strong brass bracelets decorated with lines, brass bolt with lyre sting, later cane strap, oxidation, missing. 19th century L. 98 cm
