France Naval officer sabre type prairial an XII Single-branch bronze mounting, ebony spindle (cracks) with quillon ending in the shape of a sea monster's head. Cross decorated with a naval anchor on a bundle of flags with a half face of the Sun on a radiant background. Short-tailed cap decorated with laurel branches. Curved blade with flat back and hollow sides, engraved in thirds with military and floral trophies (missing and oxidised) Wooden scabbard sheathed in leather (missing) with two chased brass fittings, cap with half-round mermaid and spider webs on both sides, oxidisation, knocks, missing gilding, wear restorations, blade probably reassembled at an early date. 19th century
