Lot no. 250
FRANCO BARGIGGIA Genoa 1888 - 1966 First steps Signed Franco Bargiggia and stamp Fonderia Artistica Battaglia 80 on the base Bronze, h 26 cm The Museo Civico di Sanremo houses the richest collection of sculptures by Franco Bargiggia, who was born in Milan and moved to Sanremo in the 1920s, where he achieved particularly fine results, especially in the field of plastic arts. The sculptures are distinguished by the purity of their forms and the restrained majesty of their plastic structure. Constructed through soft, sinuous lines, they project the observer into an intimate dimension that evokes the warmth of family affection. Bargiggia succeeds in bringing out from the moulded material the sense of sacredness inherent in the maternal figure, which is expressed in tender, enveloping embraces.
