Lot no. 327
François BIRBAUM (1872-1947), "Plaine du Rhône en hiver, Le Grand Chêne d'Yvorne", pastel on panel, signed lower right F Birbaum. H. 38.5 x 46.5 cm Note: François Birbaum (1872-1947) was a Swiss artist born in Fribourg, renowned for his intimate and poetic pastels. A pupil of the Russian landscape master Ivan Shishkin (1832-1898), he developed a personal style influenced by Symbolism and modern art. He was one of the first masters at Fabergé, where he produced numerous Easter eggs for Emperor Nicholas II of Russia, combining decorative art with a personal artistic vision. Back in Switzerland, Birbaum devoted himself to painting landscapes and still lifes, marked by a subtle use of light and pastel colours. His works go beyond the simple representation of nature, expressing a poetic and introspective dimension. In this way, Birbaum establishes himself as an artist deeply connected to nature, while infusing his creations with a unique sensibility.
