Our delightful little oil painting was done by François Bonvin in the year of his death. It is part of the body of work produced in the last years of the painter's life, when he was ill and obliged to stay at home. During this period, he produced an increasing number of small, intimate still lifes, painted quickly on small panels, of which our painting is a wonderful example. The artist strove to faithfully render the variations in light and texture of the objects he painted. Subtle impastos coexist with light glazes, for a result of great accuracy and rare poetry.
