This drawing, in which numerous repentirs can be observed, can be compared to several drawings of female nudes seen from the back by François Boucher dating from the beginning of his career, such as, for example, a sheet from the Griscom collection recently sold, Christie's, New York, 28 January 2021, lot 28, another now in the Kupferstichkabinett in Berlin (inv. KdZ 1420) and, more particularly, one from the sale in Narbonne on 23 March 2024, where the pose of the model is very similar, albeit in reverse.
On the basis of a digital photograph, François Joulie has confirmed the attribution of the drawing, albeit with reservations as he has not seen it, while Laure-Aline Demazure attributes it to a pupil of the artist.
We would like to thank Françoise Joulie and Laure-Aline Demazure for their help in preparing this note.
